Pretty and practical: Blafre tins and drink bottles

Suitcase
A fresh load of Blafre tins and drink bottles have made their way onto our shelves and we couldn’t be happier to share some new designs with you. Designed in Norway, the suitcase style tins are ideal as lunch boxes or storage to brighten your shelves. These flew off the shelves last time, so pop in and choose yours soon or you could miss out!

squaretinsThe smaller square and rectangular tins are perfect for so many things around the house – one customer is slowly forming a collection to store her teas in. These would be an asset to the sewing/craft room too, not to mention just the right size for snacktime treats!

bottlesAnd of course we have more drink bottles – free of BPAs, toxins, chemicals, lead and liner free! These are the perfect size for small hands, and make drinking water a whole lot more stylish!

baking with children

cake tin and roller $22.00
” Young children of course love to play. In Waldorf early childhood education, Children often are encouraged to play by participating in the traditional activities that might take place in a home: cooking and baking, cleaning and washing, sewing and ironing, gardening and building. Because these activities are done rhythmically, they create a feeling of well-being and a sense of security in the child. Because they are real, they help a child become grounded in the realities of life. Because they serve a purpose and are filled with meaning, they help the child enter more fully into life at a later age.

little lorikeets steiner playgroup

Another beautiful day out!
Do pop in to the Little Lorikeet Playgroup’s Spring Fair on the 17th September.
If you’re looking for a playgroup to join over in the west then this one is or you!
My time with my first at the Carnegie Steiner Playgroup was some of the most valuable time in my early years of motherhood, and Ive met some great friends too…our children have all grown up happily together.

sewing love…

I have a collection of old sewing machines!
Yep!…. there you go i just said it out ‘loud. They are the most beautiful old machines and they sew so well. They are solid and when you put your foot to the floor they don’t skip across the table! (happy about that!)
I would love to get my mits on this one!

In the sewing classes at Little Sparrow we will be using some of the old classics….Pinnock, St James, Singer, Wardana and of course the Lightwieght and even the Singer Featherweight. I was lucky enough to be bequeithed one from my Nana who passed away before i was born, Dorothy loved sewing and I think genetically I inherited some of the love too.
It’s quite liberating being able to make things for your family, or even fix things! I went through a “hippy-like” phase of sewing all things rainbow for my little ones, much to the eldest’s horror now!
So this little Featherweight has done some miles!

Actually this is where it all started, the Singer Featherweight!
I am ever on the hunt for some of these beauties
My collection is ever growing….i just collected a “Lightweight” from the ‘back ‘o’ burke’ lightweight by name for sure!
You can sew too even if you don’t have a machine…you can come and use mine. They are all available for hire in our workroom on a Monday afternoon!….and there are “Sewing Machine Basics” lessons offered here at Little Sparrow too

who’s monkeying around?

$65.00
…definitely not these two! they’re far to innocent!!

a beautiful day out!

If you haven’t already visited this kindergarten, then I highly recommend this day out!
The kindergarten teachers will all be there to answer all your questions and you can see the wonderful environment the kids spend their time in!
There will be activities for the children, live music and some wonderful craft stalls…..
and the food is just amazing!
